Tughans Corporate Partner John McGuckian was named Insider magazine’s dealmaker of the year at a ceremony in the Europa Hotel last night.
Mr McGuckian was the lead legal advisor on a significant number of high profile, high value deals last year in Northern Ireland and further afield.
He advised the shareholders of software company Tascomi on the sale to Idox plc, he also advised on the sale of SSAS Solutions to Mattioli Woods plc, and consulted closely with Foresight Group/57 Stars on their investment into the 352 Medical Group.
In addition to Mr McGuckian’s M&A and equity investment activity, John has been lead advisor to inward investors into Northern Ireland including insurance giant Aflac inc, global cyber security firm Cynash, US health tech company Highroads, and others.
Tughans Managing Partner Patrick Brown says the award is further evidence of the quality of the firm’s advice and diligence and the impact this has on the success of complex transactions. “This is a fitting recognition of John as a lawyer who, while being skilled in his own specialism, goes beyond providing a legal function,” says Mr Brown. “He goes a step further by bringing parties together and ensuring that deals are structured accurately, expedited and most importantly closed.”
Tughans worked on the majority of venture capital transactions in NI and the bulk of recent high-profile private equity investments over the past 12 months. The firm was also directly involved in three further awards including Private Equity/Venture Capital Deal of the Year, Deal of the Year (£2.5m-£10m) and Deal of the Year (above £10m).
