Tughans successfully represents the Ulster Gaelic Athletic Association in Casement Park Judicial Review

Tughans has successfully represented its longstanding client the Ulster Gaelic Athletic Association in the latest Casement Park Judicial Review brought before the High Court.

Planning permission was previously granted for a 38,000 capacity Casement Park in 2013. However, in 2014 approval was quashed in a High Court legal challenge brought by MORA. Following a Department for Infrastructure decision, taken in July 2021 to approve the GAA’s proposal for a new 34,578 capacity stadium at the Andersonstown venue, a judicial review in respect of the grant of planning permission was again brought by MORA. The residents’ group has expressed concerns over the development plans, citing traffic and noise issues among other factors.

Tughans has been advising in relation to all aspects of the project to redevelop Casement Park, including advice in relation to funding agreements, construction, planning and procurement.

Commenting on the matter, Maria O’Loan, Tughans’ Head of Planning and Environmental law said “Tughans have been involved in this long and complex process for over a decade, navigating a raft of legal issues along the way. The verdict will now enable to the Ulster GAA to finally have the home it deserves in world class facilities”.
